Weaver was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and raised in nearby Bridgeport. She attended West Virginia University, where she studied theater and music. After college, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting. Weaver made her film debut in the 1975 comedy The Stepford Wives, and went on to appear in several other films, including The Goodbye Girl (1977), The World According to Garp (1982), and The Money Pit (1986).
